U. S. 13 Kart Club Prepares For 2008 Season

Delmar, DE ..The U. S. 13 Kart Club is just about ready for the new season. This coming weekend the club will hold the last event for the 2007 season with the annual Banquet and Awards Program. The club is located on the Delmarva Motorsports Complex, in Delmar, DE. Better known as Delaware International Speedway and the US 13 Dragway, located on the US 13 Highway, ½ mile north of the MD-DE state line. The track is on the left just before you enter the Ό dragway and ½ mile clay oval.
2007 proved to be a great racing season. The club runs by WKA sanction guidelines. This is the first year for so many of the Animal Classes; eventually all motors will be animal in the future. The club had 4 classes with the Animal titles, Animal Lite, Medium, Heavy and Xtra-Heavy. The former Stock Lite and Stock Medium are now known as Briggs 330 and Briggs 370 Classes, which are flathead motors only.
Another note of interest may be that the club runs regular Friday night races, but also run a Delaware state race once a month. The name for the state is Delaware Dirt Divisional Series (DDDS), and has some differences in rules and such as in the club divisions. The two divisions are two totally separate events with both receiving awards and jackets at the end of the year.
The club has gotten the 2008 season schedule together. There is a new format for practice this year. The first practice will be March 14, 2008, weather permitting and the first club race on Friday, March 28. April 5 marks the first DDDS race at Delmar with five other state events in the season. Last year, the club held three state races at the 2007 newly owned Delmarva Motorsports Park (DMP formerly Middleford Speedway) to help get the owner established and to start holding a weekly event in the summer during the week. There are a total of three DDDS races to be held at DMP for 2008, May 3rd, July 12, and Sept. 6th, and the other three at Delmar.
The time for state races has changed to open gates at 12 PM, Registrations 12-2 PM, Practice start 4 PM; the past two year the DDDS started at 7 AM; Club races, gates open 5 PM, registration 5-7 PM, Practice 7 PM.
The club will end the 2008 season with two money benefit races in the fall this year. They will be for two drivers that they lost 2007; Ralph Moore, and Kyle Dixon. Both guys were great guys and avid racers; they will be missed a lot.
After that first state race April 5th, the club will be in gear for the regular Friday night action, with April 11, 2008 the second club race of the season. A complete look of the US 13 Kart Club Tracks schedule has been posted on the web at www.dekarting.net.
