Delmar, DE…..The U. S. Kart Club, has closed out the season with a bang of action throughout the year. The racing season got under way back in April, and ran every Friday night with some fast, close, battling each weekend on the one-sixth clay oval.
Some of the teams were down to the wire in the point’s battle, while others were rookies and just a competitive as the regulars. Now, the season has ended and the champions have been named to be crowned at the banquet in January.
The Junior I class was one of the largest classes in years, so that, a new “Rookie” Class had to be started for safety reasons. Even that class was competitive among themselves, and a success, but no points were awarded to the rookie class. The top two in the JR I class were only separated by 5 points in the end so that was pretty tight race. Kody Joudrey 20, finished first over Tyler Reed 72, and the remaining top ten karters were, Austin Wright 1, Robbie Emory 9, Cody Dawson 36, Derek Magee 96, Cody Hitchens 38, Nicholas Brobst 19, Jordan Justice 94, and Jonathan Balas 3.
The Junior II class champion winner was Scott Hitchens 15, who seem to be unstoppable in wins with at least seven wins in the season. Running second through 10th were, Jacob Pearson 24, Kevin Scott Jr. 12, Kyle Dixon 84, Kyle Parks 6, Rodney Bambary 16, Nicholas Wilkins 00, Brandon Larimore 66, Cody Belote 60, and Mike Allaband 8.
The Junior III class champion was a karter that was no stranger to the winners circle with three prior championships under her belt and claiming this year as well was Erika Hearn 18. But the second place kart of Brandon Beale 10, was only 3 pts. behind Hearn. The remaining top ten karters were Lee Hurlock 91, Robert Brobst 8, Jerry Carter 5, Matt Slater 3, Bryan Brobst 11, Shane Forest 1, Aaron Morris 50, and George Smith 48.
Stock Lite division was won by a sophomore karter of John Ellis, Jr., 22. Ellis led a hefty lead in the end followed by Mark Wilkins 16 in second. The remaining the top ten were Chad Larimore 28, Butch Tucker 7, Dale Green 3, Richie Hornsby 1, Greg Tucker 15, Chad Reed 8, Richie Walls 9, and Wesley Smith 98.
In Stock Medium, John Macklin was another champion that ruled in his class with more that 9 wins. Macklin was the champion for this class with Chris Neill 35, running second. Neill in his rookie year was John Ellis, Jr. teammate this year and did a great jog for a rookie. Third on back were T. J. Chelton 21, John Gallo 55, Jim Tyre 2, Bob McDermott 57, Chad Reed 58, Km Bennett 89, Bill Layton 12, and Brett Griffin 15. Kim Bennett raced her rookie year to finish in the top ten, so that was pretty impressive to say the least for someone who has never raced anything and running with the guys each week.
Next in the Stock Heavy class was Chad Reed 58, claiming the championship followed by Troy Davis 97, Brock Anthony 4, Bill Layton 12, Brett Griffin 15, Kirk Harrington 98, Scott Smith 3, Allen Ford 19, Wayne Shores 31, and Jeff Kenney 18.
In the end, only 8 pts. divided the Stock Xtra Heavy Champion James Hickman 16, and second the place of Mike Reynolds 48. Third through tenth were Craig Bennett 9, Jason Woodall 28, John Davis 90, Jeffery Bushaw 08, Allen Ford 19, Donnie Windsor 8, Randy Johnson 2, and John Davis, Sr. 12.
In the Thirty-Five & Over Class it was down to 24 pts in the end with Ralph Moore 5, taking the champion title over Rick Argo 17. Mike Reynolds 48 was 3rd, followed by James Hickman 16, Horace Wilson 29, Bob McDermott 57, Jay Smith 9, and Buddy Mears 22, finished 8th after having to pull out of racing mid-way in the season due to health. Ace Adkins 88, and Patrick Somers 83 rounded out the top ten.
Finally, the last class was the Limited division, where John Ellis, Jr., 22, took a second championship for the 2004 season along with the one in Stock Lite. Second through tenth were Randy Wroten 54, John Davis 1, Dale Blades 21, Tim Milam 45, Jeff Weber 21, Rick Jones 6, Kenneth Peek 46, Billy Collingsworth 2, and John Mitchell 89.
While the Pee-Wee division does not receive any points, there were quite a few participators each week that appear to be a threat in the coming years when they do move up to be awarded points. Honorable mention goes to Brady Bowden 47, Donald Tingle 74, Jasmine McCane 18, Adam Weber 9, Josh Clark 99, Lauren Balas 8, Mark Huffman 7, Connor Savage 81, Jamie Emory 0, and Alex White 97.
The season was a success, and every driver gave it all they had each week. So a big hooray goes out to all for all their efforts all year.
